6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
A new breed of gardener is sprouting up in Red Deer, turning this once quaint hobby into a dynamic, local economy-building activity. "Community gardens", "local food", "100-mile diets"... it seems like overnight that urban gardening has become more than just "the thing your grandparents used to do". And for good reason. In the face of issues like food sovereignty and food security, organic food production is finding its way back into the hands and homes of concerned citizens in Red Deer. If you're wondering what the heck food sovereignty and food security are, don't worry - you're not alone.
This will be an edu-taining evening as we screen a short film on food, ecology, and religion in the 21st century called "A Thousand Suns" followed by a presentation on the importance of local food production by Susan Roberts of Growing Food Security in Alberta. We'll also give you a sneak preview of ReThink Red Deer's first "Sustainable Citizen Guide" - brief documents intended to inform citizens and municipal / regional candidates on important "urban-living" issues in Red Deer so you can participate in important discussions in our community.
If you eat, this is one evening you can't afford to miss!
