Cyclists bring new attention to self-powered commuting

Better Bicycle Commuting, an informal citizens group that sprang out of ReThink Red Deer, is generating new awareness (and plenty of discussion) about bike commuting in our community.  The group held a hugely successful "Lanes for Life" ride, complete with RCMP bike escort, on September 12.  They are now in touch with the Mayor and City Council to discuss initiatives that would improve our roadways for cycling.

A look at cycling routes, signage, and dedicated cycle lanes in cities from Boulder CO to Victoria BC to our southern neighbour Calgary show that creativity and commitment can create safer sharing of streets.
