ReThink Red Deer
Interested in Permaculture but unable to take in the two day workshop this weekend?
On Thursday evening, workshop leader Jesse Lemieux of Pacific Permaculture gives an overview of what "permaculture" means and its relevance to our sustainability. The session is 6:30 - 9:00 pm at the Margaret Parsons Theatre at RDC. Admission is free.
Permaculture (permanent - agriculture) is the conscious design and maintenance of agricultural ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. The philosophy is one that works with, rather than against nature and teaches that the only ethical decisions we can make are to take responsibility for our own existence and that of our children.

Building a Sustainable Community - piece by piece
ReThink Red Deer is pleased to announce that Mayor Morris Flewwelling will be joining City Manager Craig Curtis for the first ReThink presentation of 2010. On Thursday, January 21 the Mayor and City Manager will outline how The City is taking steps towards sustainability. Their presentation will be followed by a question and answer period and general discussion.
This is a great opportunity, as we move in a municipal election year, to share ideas about what our community priorities should be in Red Deer.
The City is basing its approach on what it sees as five pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, social, cultural and governance. What is your understanding of these principles? How do they inter-relate?
The event is at the newly renovated Margaret Parsons Theatre at RDC, starting at 6:30 pm. Parking is free (and of course carpooling, transit, walking and cycling are encouraged).
We look forward to seeing you on the evening of January 21st.
